Ian Chappell smashes ICC on new rule

"CRICKET’S law makers have traditionally favoured batsmen but their recent changes to the playing conditions suggest that in trying to satisfy both camps this time, they’ve actually achieved very little.Typical of those who tinker with the way the game is run, the latest ICC changes to the playing conditions have opted for the complicated rather than simple solution to any perceived problems. The free hit for a front-foot no-ball is a classic example.Batsmen will receive a free hit following a front-foot no-ball but it doesn’t say whether the fielding captain has the right to alter the field placings for this extra delivery. If they can, as happened for a couple of seasons in Australia, then it makes a mockery of the term free hit."
